Uncle Pete's Comida Loca (location HERE)

I'm not going to "rank" Uncle Pete's, because I am Uncle Pete, so I am more than a little biased, but I will say that unlike a lot of the options in Roma/Condesa/Juarez, we keep our prices fair (nearly always under 100 pesos for a full plate of food) and we are just about the only place in town adhering to the following culinary principles:

1. Whole food, plant-based, natural, unprocessed, vegetable-centered, and healthy vegan food (we do not use mock meats, ever, as I find them to be both unhealthy and unappetizing).

2. Bold flavors (at way too many places, the flavor comes from the salsa, while the food itself is bland, but our food is anything but bland).

3. We cook whatever inspires us that week, making our offerings very unique. We have cooked West African vegan food, Thai vegan food, Indian vegan food, Italian vegan food, Mexican vegan food (tinga, picadillo, mole de poblano, mole verde), vegan soul food, vegan Greek food, and so on (follow /UnclePeteCDMX on Instagram or /UnclePeteCDMX on Facebook for updates to the menu and for the opening hours- as of now, Fridays only, from 1:30 to 3:30).

#1, Mictlan (location HERE)

Mictlan is my second favorite and clearly one of the best vegan restaurants in Mexico City. They have a lot of unprocessed, whole food, plant based options, and they season and prepare everything well, and their prices are non-abusive, unlike many other vegan options in CDMX (especially in Roma and Condesa).

#2, Cocina de Vegatales (location HERE)

Rotating menu, plenty of whole food, unprocessed, plant based vegan food (some mock meat, but non-mock-meat options as well), everything we had was delicious AF, and the prices were great, too. It seems a little far, but the B metro line drops you off right there, so it's not that hard, and it's easily worth it, as they have some of the very best vegan food in Mexico City!!

#3, Garnacha Vegana (location HERE)

Wonderful spot (their chickpea-based chorizo verde occupies a permanent place in my very dirtiest dreams jaja). Legitimately not easy to get to, but super worth it. The food is wonderful, the service is wonderful, and the prices are incredible.

#4, Flores de Vegano (location HERE)

I love their chickpea-based "tuna salad" and their sauteed mushrooms and their risotto, and I especially love that their flavors are bold (their food does not need salsa in order to avoid the blandness pitfall). Prices are high but not abusive. Great spot!!

#5, Veganisimo Loncheria (location HERE)

Although most of their options involve "mock meats", which I do not like, I love their mushroom "pescadillas" and their carrot tinga. SO DAMN GOOD!! Nice people working there as well, and very fair prices (especially considering the neighborhood, Roma Norte). Overall, I find this place to be one of the best vegan restaurants in Mexico City (CDMX).

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Veguisima has a variety of whole food vegan options and is one of the best vegan restaurants in Mexico City (CDMX). Plus, despite being in Condesa, they have fair prices. A great vegan restaurant, overall, just barely not quite in my personal top 5.

La Pitahaya has delicious vegan food, and would have made the list based on flavor alone, but their prices are quite high and their portions are quite small. It's like, I love the taste of their food, but I always leave hungry and have to walk with a limp on the way home, if you know what I mean!! jaja

In terms of flavor, Plantasia is one of the best vegan restaurants in Mexico City (CDMX), but their best-tasting options are unhealthy, their prices are very high, and they have a reputation for treating their workers like shit, so even though I do love many of their dishes, I no longer patronize this place (same owners as Forever, but I never really liked the food at Forever).

A crew of happy customers posing with Uncle Pete at Uncle Pete's Comida Loca.

I love the veggie-centered guisado options for the tostadas at the wonderful Mictlan.

The monthly special potato flautas at Cocina de Vegetales were SO GOOD!!

I failed to take a pic of the fabulous vegan chorizo verde, but the mole was legit, too!!

The sweet potato at Flores de Vegano was good, though I like other options better.

I adore the carrott tinga tostadas at Veganisimo. Delicious and good for you, too!!
